# Articles Source: https://help.raindrop.io/articles Read saved articles in a clean, ad-free view When you [save a bookmark](/bookmarks), Raindrop detects articles automatically and lets you read them in a clean built-in preview — just the content, nothing else. The same preview works for videos, PDFs, EPUBs, and images. ## Reading an article Right-click a bookmark and select **Preview**. [Stella](/stella) can summarize it, extract key points, translate into another language, or answer your questions about the content. Switch to the Ask tab in the preview panel. Filter to see just your articles, [search](/using-search) through their text — whatever helps you find what you need. Click the **Articles** filter in the sidebar. See [Highlights](/highlights). # Authentication Source: https://help.raindrop.io/authentication Sign-in methods, password management, and two-factor authentication Raindrop.io supports several ways to sign in: email or username with a password, Google, and Apple. You can use any combination — for example, register with Google and later add a password, or use all methods at once. All sign-in settings are in [Account Settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/account). ## Changing your password Go to [Account Settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/account) and click **Change password**. You'll need to enter your current password first. All other sessions will end automatically. If you don't remember your current password, use [password recovery](#password-recovery) instead. ## Changing your email or username Go to [Account Settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/account), update the corresponding field and save. All other sessions will end automatically. After changing your email, confirm it by clicking the verification link sent to your new address. ## Password recovery To regain access to your account: Go to the [Reset password](https://app.raindrop.io/account/lost) page Enter your email address Check your inbox for a reset link and set a new password ## Connecting Google or Apple Go to [Account Settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/account) and find the **Sign in with** section. Toggle Google or Apple on to connect, off to disconnect. You can add or remove providers at any time. If you registered through a social provider and want to also sign in with a password, click **Change password** in Account Settings. After that you can use both methods or disconnect the social provider. To switch from one provider to another, connect the new one first, then disconnect the old one. ## Two-factor authentication (2FA) 2FA adds an extra step when you log in: after your password, you enter a one-time code from an authentication app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Authy). Enabling or disabling 2FA automatically ends all other sessions. Install an authentication app (Google Authenticator, Authy, or similar) on your phone if you don't have one yet. Go to [2FA settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/tfa) and click **Add**. Scan or copy the secret code into your authentication app. Type the six-digit code from the app and click **Continue**. Save your recovery codes in a safe place — you'll need them if you lose access to the authentication app. If you lose both your authentication app and recovery codes, you won't be able to access your account. Go to [2FA settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/tfa) Click **Disable** Enter a one-time passcode from your authentication app or a recovery code Start the [login](https://app.raindrop.io/account) process When asked for an authentication code, click **Disable** Enter your recovery code and confirm ## Logging out Go to [Account Settings](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/account) and click **Logout** to sign out of the current device. If you need to end all active sessions — for example, after using a shared computer — click **Logout from all devices** instead. ## FAQ Yes. You can connect any combination of sign-in methods and use whichever is most convenient. Yes. Set a password in Account Settings, then disconnect the social provider if you no longer need it. Yes. Connect the new provider first, then disconnect the old one. Not yet. Currently only authentication apps are supported. Save a link — and it's stored with a clean preview, ready to organize into [collections](/collections), label with [tags](/tags), and annotate with notes. ## Saving bookmarks Click the Raindrop.io icon in your browser toolbar. Make sure you have the [browser extension](/install-extension) installed. Pick a collection, add tags if you want, and click **Save**. Open a collection and click **+ Add** in the toolbar. Paste the URL and click **Save**. Tap **Share** in any app (Safari, YouTube, Twitter, etc.). Choose **Raindrop.io** from the share sheet. If you don't see it, scroll the top row of icons to the right and tap **More** at the end to enable Raindrop.io. Make sure you have the [mobile app](/mobile-app) installed. Pick a collection, add tags if you want, and tap **Save**. Tap **Share** in any app. Choose **Raindrop** from the share list. Make sure you have the [mobile app](/mobile-app) installed. If the bookmark is an article or video, you can view it later in a [clean built-in preview](/articles) — no ads or clutter. ## Managing a bookmark Hover over a bookmark and click **Edit**, or right-click and select **Edit** from the context menu. Long-press a bookmark and choose **Edit**. Tap the icon next to a bookmark to open the edit screen. From here you can edit the title, description, or thumbnail, and also: * Add a **note** — your own comments, context, or anything you want to remember about the page. Notes are written in Markdown (bold, italic, lists, links) and are included in [search](/using-search) and [export](/export) * Move the bookmark to another [collection](/collections) * Add [tags](/tags) for easier filtering * Set a [reminder](/reminders) so you don't forget about it * Mark as **favorite** to keep it at hand * Or **delete** — the bookmark goes to [Trash](#where-deleted-bookmarks-go), not permanently removed ## Sorting bookmarks By default bookmarks appear newest first. You can also manually reorder them — drag the ones that deserve more attention to the top. Click in the toolbar. Use the toolbar: **⋮** → **Move**, **Add tags**, **Delete**, and more. ## Where deleted bookmarks go Deleted bookmarks are moved to **Trash** collection. It works like any other collection: you can browse it, drag bookmarks out to restore them, or drag bookmarks into it to delete them. Nothing is removed permanently until you choose to. To have it in two places, open the target collection, click **+**, paste the URL, and save — this creates a separate copy. Title, description, thumbnail, and content type (article, video, image, document, audio). Full text is also extracted from any web page, as well as PDF, EPUB, TXT, and Markdown files — making them all [searchable](/using-search). Right-click the bookmark → **Refresh preview**. Raindrop.io will re-extract content from the original page. If the problem persists, contact support at [info@raindrop.io](mailto:info@raindrop.io). # Broken links Source: https://help.raindrop.io/broken-links Automatic detection of outdated and unavailable bookmarks Web pages go offline, get deleted, or move to a new address — and there is no way to know until you click. Raindrop.io scans your bookmarks automatically and marks the ones that may no longer work, so you can decide what to do before you need them. Requires a [Pro plan](/premium-features). ## Finding broken links Bookmarks flagged as broken show a ghost icon next to the domain name. To see all of them at once: Click the **Broken links** filter in sidebar Tap in top right corner and then **Filter**. Select the **Broken links** from available filters. Tap the search field. Select the **Broken links** filter from the suggestions. ## What to do with a broken link A broken-link flag is a hint, not a verdict — the page may be temporarily down or simply moved. You have several options: * **Do nothing.** If you have a [web archive](/permanent-copy) copy, the content is safe even if the original page is gone. * **Fix the URL.** If the page moved to a new address, update the URL in the bookmark editor. The broken flag clears automatically within a few hours. * **Delete.** If the bookmark is no longer relevant, select it and press **Delete**. ## Reducing false positives Some pages appear broken even though they work fine — for example, local network resources, sites behind aggressive firewalls, or slow servers. You can adjust how strictly Raindrop.io checks links in [Settings → App](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/app) under the **Broken links** dropdown. Detection modes comparison | Mode | What gets flagged | | ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Basic** | Only explicit "not found" responses (404, 410). Best if you have many intranet or local-network bookmarks. | | **Default** | Basic + domain does not exist or cannot be resolved. | | **Strict** | Default + slow responses, server errors, and too many redirects. | To turn off checking entirely, set the mode to **Off**. ## FAQ Scans run automatically on a regular schedule. After you change a URL or switch detection mode, allow a few hours for results to update. Some sites block automated requests, causing a false positive. This also applies to local network resources that Raindrop.io servers cannot reach. Switch to **Basic** mode in [Settings → App](https://app.raindrop.io/settings/app) to reduce these cases. Not if you have a Pro plan. Raindrop.io automatically saves a [web archive](/permanent-copy) copy of every bookmark. Even if the original page disappears, you can open the archived version. Yes. But sometimes you need other people involved: a colleague gathering research, a friend contributing to a shared reading list, or a team curating resources together. Membership works at the collection level: you choose which collections to share and invite people to each one individually. Nested collections are included automatically. Everything else stays private. If you just want to publish a read-only link for anyone on the web, use a [public page](/public-page) instead. ## Inviting members Open the collection you want to share. Click the **Share** button in the top-right corner. If the Share button is not visible, make sure you are inside a specific collection — sharing is not available from "All bookmarks" or "Unsorted". Switch to the **Collaboration** tab to manage existing members or invite new ones. Click **Invite** to create a unique join link. Send this link to anyone you want to add. Collections work like folders — group related items together so you always know where things are. Each collection has its own icon and layout settings, so you can set up each one the way that works best for its content. Bookmarks you save without picking a collection land in **Unsorted** — a built-in inbox you can sort through later. ## Creating a collection Click in the sidebar. Use the toolbar actions: * **Merge** — combine all selected collections into one. All bookmarks are moved to the target collection. * **Delete** — delete all selected collections. Before comparing, Raindrop.io strips away differences that don't affect the actual page: protocol (`http` vs `https`), `www` prefix, trailing slashes, tracking query parameters (like referral or ad source IDs), and hash fragments. ## FAQ Yes.
